Drinks & Dialogue Recap
by Faith Russell
Dr. Michael Gizzi and Brad Bell, co-organizers of the local 50501 chapter, spoke at October's Drinks & Dialogue at Gill Street Bar & Grill. They described the origins and purpose of the 50501 movement, a nonpartisan, pro-democracy organization, to League and community members.

50501 was highly involved in organizing the local Oct. 18 No Kings rally that attracted participants who crowded the BCPA field and filled both sides of the street down a block from the BCPA.

Brad Bell (left) and Dr. Michael Gizzi noted the benefits of nonviolent protest rallies. Rallies build trust and solidarity. They enlighten officials as to the magnitude of opposition. The experience of participating in a protest rally affirms that protesting citizens aren't helpless, defeated or powerless. They’re participating in democracy.

The speakers made clear that the League of Women Voters can have a role to play in supporting the efforts of the 50501 movement.

Stay tuned for more Drinks & Dialogue in the future.
